What is Ethernet?

Ethernet is the most common method of networking computers in a local area network (LAN). An Ethernet port looks much like a regular phone jack, but it is slightly wider. This port can be used to connect your computer to another computer, a local network, or an external DSL or cable modem.

One of the widely-used forms of Ethernet is "100-BaseT". It can handle up to about 100,000,000 bits-per-second and can be used with almost any kind of computer.
